Happy Holidays or Merry Christmas, Either way it's ok!

I see, online, many people voicing their opinions on the phrase Happy Holidays. Many Christians are upset and think that everyone should use the phrase Merry Christmas. Well I am here to tell you it does not matter which one you use, both are used to wish one well being during this time of the year, winter a cold darker time. How can wishing someone good tidings be bad? I do not see how. (and before I am labeled an Atheist I'll let you know I am a Christian.)
From a Christian perspective good tidings toward our fellow man should be considered a wonderful feeling. I mean the Angels themselves said they were bringing Good Tidings. They did not say Merry Christmas. Christmas did not come along till centuries after Jesus. Christmas is a holiday created by man with traditions of Christian and pagan origins. I do like the idea of Christ's Mass to celebrate God's gift, his Son, but I also know not everyone is a believer and you cannot force them to believe. And does it mean someone is pure evil if they do not believe? No, so why should we be upset if such a person wishes us a Happy Holiday? There is no reason to be. I would be upset if someone said you cannot say either phrase. I am glad we have freedom of religion, freedom of choice. I do not want someone saying I cannot believe in God or I have to do it a certain way.
Next time someone say Happy Holidays or Merry Christmas just know they are wishing you well, and well wishes are always good be they from a Christian or anyone.
So in closing I wish to say Happy Holidays and a Merry Christmas.

The War of 1812

I was looking at the calendar the other day when it hit me. Next year will mark the anniversary of the beginning of the War of 1812, what some say was our second war of independence. I guess you can say it was since the main complaint for the United States was the impressment of its seamen by Great Britain (actually the United Kingdom even at that early time). Although things did not go as the US wanted them to go. (The treaty to end the war returned things to the way they were before without addressing the cause of Impressment. After Napoleon was defeated there was not need to impress sailors into the British Navy. Oh yeah, they did burn our capitol.) The war did show we would not be pushed around; we can and will fight back.

One thing we gained from the war was a proud naval tradition. With just a few "Fir built frigates", as one British Naval officer called them, we showed that we can sail and fight just as well as the British Navy. I know we could not compete in number of or size of ships, but those Frigates like the USS Constitution, United States, President, Congress, Constellation, and the ill fated Chesapeake did more to show the flag than anything else.

I have to say that I am proud to have served in the United States Navy. I also want to thank the Royal Navy, not for the war but for the tradition and spirit we inherited.

One of the projects I have filed away ready for work is the story of a fictional US naval hero from the early days of our Navy. I hope to complete the project sometime next year after I finish The Thunderhead Rebellion the first book in a Sci-Fi series.

Too Lazy

Well, the title says it all. I have been too lazy to blog. I guess I have to get back to it. I have not been so lazy to not have done something. I have finished This, That, No Kitchen Sink a collection of short stories. It has a little this and a little of that. A little scary and a little funny. Two of the short stories were previously published as singles under C. E. Parmele but now are under Charles E. Parmele.
Check them out on www.smashwords.com. Well, I got to go eat dinner. Catch Ya'll later.
